style icon: audrey hepburn (at auction!)

I die. I just positively fall over at the thought of the fact that more than 30 dresses, accessories plus letters handwritten by her will be at auction in London on Dec. 8. I die.

You will have trouble getting to the auction house site to see the catalogue, web traffic is heavy. But do try visiting kerrytaylorauctions.com. You will be astounded. And not only by the Audrey items. Also on the block are a gaggle of Chanel bags, a killer Hermès bag, and fashion illustrations and designs by the greatest of greats -- Jacques Fath, Madeleine Vionnet, Jean Dessès. I mean truly I die for all of this.

I've done some reading around about the auction and here is my favourite quote from artdaily.org:

Edith Head, the multi-Oscar winning film costumier said of her “Like Dietrich, Audrey’s fittings became the ten-hour not the ten-minute variety. She knew exactly how she wanted to look or what worked best for her, yet she was never arrogant or demanding. She had an adorable sweetness that made you feel like a mother getting her only daughter ready for the prom”.

Vogue UK has a good article and photo gallery, click here. And the biggest hat tip goes to Tina Daunt. I first learned of this event at her extraordinary blog The English Muse.

And finally, feast your eyes on the lovelies:
