delish dior
December 21, 2009 at 11:05 PM Today I felt like something fabulous. Something beyond the best. Something from a dream. So, where did I look? Dior Couture, naturalment. It did not disappoint. John Galliano is a magician. He is known not only for his exquisite garments, but also as a showman without equal. But this particular collection he chose to show at the Avenue Montainge atelier in Paris. So retro. So intimate. So Carmel Snow (it was she who dubbed the Dior 1947 collection the New Look). I remember one time when I was in Paris with an afternoon to myself I made the trip to fashion mecca, Avenue Montaigne. I took a half-dozen photos of the Dior doorway (and this was before digital). That Dior dove grey is on my love-it-forever list. But enough rambling. Here's what I'm talking about:

Gwyneth's Donna Karan is lovely, but this, this is the best pink dress EVER. Don't you think? Here is the auction catalogue description.

A Givenchy haute couture shocking pink silk crêpe sheath, Autumn-Winter 1966-7, labelled and numbered 33665, the diagonal neckline rising from a bow on the left side, with integral corset, the skirt wrapping around with curved hem, bust 86cm, 34in, waist 58.5cm, 23in; together with a photograph of Audrey modelling a similar Givenchy gown, (2) Audrey modelled a variation of this gown and was photographed for US Vogue by William Klein for the October 15th, 1966 issue -. `Pink on the bias, A loose langourous Givenchy spiral of pale pink crepe falling to an uneven hemline ...' source: kerry taylor auctions Provenance: Audrey, Givenchy, Vogue and William Klein.
