comforts of home

This had been a difficult week. It has left me feeling fragile and weary. At times like these, the comforts of home soothe the soul: A fresh and warm bed, a plate heaped with mashed potatoes with fresh cracked pepper and plenty of butter, a cozy blankie to wrap around me and a chunky cardie to put on the minute I step through the door.

I take comfort in words, too. Poetry is always right. Now, Desiderata has its detractors. Say what you will about it, I don't care. Several of the lines are little life lessons for all of us.

Go placidly among the noise and haste,

and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender,

Be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly;

and listen to others....

Avoid loud and aggressive persons'

They are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,

You may become vain or bitter,

for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself....

Beyond a wholesome discipline,

be gentle with yourself.

Your are a child of the universe

no less than the trees and stars;

You have a right to be here.

And whether or not it is clear to you,

No doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.....

With all its sham, drudgery and broken dreams,

it is still a beautiful world.

Sorry to hear about your rough week. Need to read your tweets to get the deets. Hope Kevin is on the mend. I have had the Desiderata hanging in my home since my university days - always a good reminder. Have a peaceful, restful weekend.

Hi Margot,
I have long admired your work and think that you bring such wonderful design magic to all that you do. I can so relate to potatoes and sweaters right now and took great comfort on this day too in reading Desiderata. I have never read it before and want to say thank you for posting it . I hope the clouds part and the sun shines for you this weekend.

I hope you get a good chance to recharge this weekend! Those mashed potatoes look delicious... I don't think I've ever craved them before I saw your photo :o)
